Spontaneous
A Live Electronic Improv Performance
in collaboration with SFCM
Here’s a clip of 009 performing Spontaneous live at the Electronic Music Performance concert 2023.
Spontaneous is an improvised electronic music performance utilizing a clip based Ableton session with live effects on vocal and instrument tracks that are performed in real time with the Push and MIDI Fighter Twister.
This piece was created as a salute to our SFCM TAC graduating class of 2023, and 009 describes the feeling of relief and excitement with the lyrics,
“We made it home.”
Beautiful Dream:
Chopin Nocturne 19
in collaboration with SFCM
Here’s a clip of 009 performing Beautiful Dream live a the Future is Female concert 2023.
Beautiful Dream: Chopin Nocturne 19 is about dreaming and is driven by the surrealism of our dreams. The rhythmic elements and the dreamy synths symbolize the effect of media on our dreams when mixed with our emotions and experiences.
Cello played by Suuvi. (She played the sidechain!)
This piece is paired with projection mapping, and image scenes and programming are created by 009.
Defensive Driving
in collaboration with SFCM and the Climate Music Project
Here’s a clip of 009 performing DD live at the Climate Music Concert 2021.
Defensive Driving was created as a quad audio piece and utilizes climate change data to shape the sound of some of the synthesizers. It is performed with live vocals and the DNKY Disruptor, a looper and sample player with vocal effects created by me in MAXmsp.
DNKY Disruptor
DNKY Disruptor application and visuals
The DNKY Disruptor is a MAXmsp patch I built that functions as a looper, sample player, and vocal processor with live audio reactive visuals.
The DNKY Disruptor is pre-loaded with an 8 sample pack of processed DNKY sounds that are played using the computer keyboard.
The DNKY Disruptor’s built in vocal effects processors include Valhalla Supermassive and iZotope VocalSynth 2, and their parameters can be set and performed live.
The DNKY Disruptor’s visuals’ movement is triggered by the vocal input and changes colors manually via the color wheel gradient. There are two audio visualizers, one below the sample mixer to visualize the sample output, and one to the right of the vocal panels to visualize the vocal output.
